Nunukan, Thursday, 13 October 2022, the Director of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang (Ketapang State Polytechnic) was invited as a speaker at the Project-Based Learning (PBL) Workshop for Politeknik Negeri Nunukan staff held online. The workshop was opened by the Director of Politeknik Negeri Nunukan, Arkaz Vidi, and also featured speakers including the Director of Politeknik Negeri Bandung and Muin Kadir from Politeknik Media Kreatif Jakarta.
Endang Kusmana, the Director of Politap, stated that PBL is one of the Key Performance Indicators (IKU) agreed between the Director and the Director General of Vocational Education (Diksi), making it an obligation that must be carried out. On this occasion, Endang also stated that PBL is a test of leadership, making it an absolute priority to pursue for Politap. His institution also applies an undergraduate thesis philosophy, advising that campuses seeking to implement PBL should not waste time debating the background and theoretical foundations that have already been addressed by other polytechnics previously.
Endang also highlighted managerial considerations, suggesting that polytechnics select relevant Study Programs to boost the momentum of other Study Programs in implementing PBL, as PBL requires relatively substantial resources, although going forward this can be achieved by partnering with industry to share resources.
The Director of Politap also conveyed that PBL is able to improve the quality of learning, so that ultimately PBL can enhance innovation through products/problems/projects that can be developed into journal publications, prototypes, and Intellectual Property Rights.
