Held in the Politeknik Negeri Ketapang (Ketapang State Polytechnic) Hall, the launch of the Five Supporting Roots of Tanah Kayong MSMEs was officially opened virtually by the Governor of West Kalimantan. The launch was marked by remarks of support from the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, and the signing of a joint agreement among the Five Supporting Roots of Tanah Kayong MSMEs: the Director of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang, Head of JNE Ketapang, Head of the Gunung Palung National Park Agency, Chairman of HIPMI Ketapang, and leaders of five banks in Ketapang, namely BRI, BNI, Bank Mandiri, BSI, and Bank Kalbar.
The Five Supporting Roots of Tanah Kayong MSMEs is a synergy of five elements to develop the creative economy, entrepreneurship, and the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Ketapang Regency and North Kayong Regency, namely the collaborative roles of academia (Politeknik Negeri Ketapang), MSME facilitators/mentors, financial institutions, distribution, and digital marketing. The launch of the Five Supporting Roots of MSMEs was attended virtually by the Governor of West Kalimantan, the Regional Secretary of Ketapang, agency heads, the five Supporting Root elements, MSME entrepreneurs adhering to health protocols, and Politap students attending virtually.
In his launch support video, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, stated that creative economy development involves two elements: entrepreneurship and the presence of MSMEs. The Minister added that to succeed and emerge victorious in challenging times, the keys are adaptation, innovation, and collaboration; thus, he encouraged the five MSME supporting roots to synergize and collaborate in MSME development.
The Governor of West Kalimantan, H. Sutarmidji, who attended virtually, warmly welcomed the initiative by the five MSME supporting roots in Ketapang and North Kayong. He encouraged stakeholders and the people of West Kalimantan to unite in perception, frequency, and action to support creative economy development, entrepreneurship, and MSMEs. Meanwhile, the Regional Secretary of Ketapang, Alexander Wilyo, expressed pride in the collaboration of the five MSME supporting roots, hoping it will provide reinforcement for the advancement of MSMEs in Ketapang Regency.
As the host of the event, the Director of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang stated in his opening remarks that MSMEs are the main pillar of the Indonesian economy as they absorb 97% of the existing workforce and can gather 60.4% of total investment. However, during the pandemic, out of 64.19 million MSMEs, 82.9% were affected by COVID-19, and only 5.9% experienced growth. Therefore, through the higher education tridharma, the institution encourages the emergence of campus entrepreneurs, innovation and standardization of lecturer research products, and mentoring for resilient MSMEs.
Ari Wibawanto, Head of the Gunung Palung National Park Agency and initiator of the Kayongku marketplace, stated that currently in Indonesia, MSME entrepreneurs using digital platforms have reached 11.7 million and are projected to reach 30 million by 2030. Thus, his party encourages MSMEs to leverage the development of the Kayongku Marketplace to market their products. This was echoed by Uti Rushan, Head of JNE Express Ketapang, stating readiness to help Tanah Kayong MSME products level up through national and even global marketing.
The launch of the five supporting roots was marked by an exhibition of products from MSMEs fostered by Politap, HIPMI, JNE, IWAPI, IPEMI, OKE OCE, Masata, and SMKN 2 Ketapang.
