Improving Laboratory Operational Quality, Politap Holds Workshop on Drafting and Implementing SOP-IK

KETAPANG – Monday (23/12/2024). Politeknik Negeri Ketapang (Ketapang State Polytechnic) through the Center for Learning Development and Educational Quality Assurance (P4MP)  held a Workshop on the Drafting and Implementation of Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions (SOP-IK) for Laboratories at Politeknik Negeri Ketapang.

The activity, held on Monday, 23 December 2024, aimed to improve the quality and effectiveness of laboratory operations at Politap and ensure that all laboratory activities run in accordance with established standards.

The Director of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang, Irianto SP, S.ST. M.MA., stated in his remarks that laboratories are crucial facilities in supporting learning and research activities. Therefore, a clear and structured system is required for laboratory operations.

“This workshop aims to provide understanding and skills to all teaching staff and laboratory technicians in drafting and implementing effective and efficient SOPs and work instructions. With sound SOPs and work instructions, practical and research activities in Politap's laboratories are expected to run smoothly, safely, and with guaranteed quality,” he said.

The workshop was attended by various stakeholders, including laboratory heads, workshop heads, laboratory technicians (PLP), and staff involved in laboratory operations. The event was led by a competent resource person in quality management and standard operating procedures, Sultono, M.Pd. from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia Bandung.

During the workshop, participants were presented with material on the importance of standard operating procedures in the context of higher education, how to draft clear and measurable SOPs and work instructions, as well as how to conduct audits and evaluations of SOP and work instruction implementation in laboratories.

Drafting SOPs and work instructions is not only about regulatory compliance, but also about fostering an organized and professional work culture in a higher education environment. Sound SOPs and work instructions will not only ensure smooth processes, but also improve safety, reduce resource waste, and facilitate performance evaluation.

The drafted SOPs and work instructions will cover various essential aspects, ranging from occupational safety procedures, laboratory equipment management, to guidelines for conducting practicums and research in accordance with academic and industrial standards. Proper implementation of SOPs and work instructions is also expected to reduce potential errors, increase productivity, and minimize the risk of occupational accidents in laboratories.

Following this workshop, it is expected that all laboratories at Politap will promptly implement the drafted and disseminated SOPs and work instructions. This step is expected not only to enhance laboratory operational quality, but also to support Politap's efforts in achieving higher educational quality standards.

With clear and systematic SOPs and work instructions, Politap also hopes to make a positive impact on students, lecturers, and industry in developing research and innovation relevant to contemporary needs.
