KIP Kuliah Higher Education Financial Assistance

News Admin Portal 3 min read

The Indonesia Smart Card (KIP) Kuliah program launched by President Joko Widodo is proof of the state's presence in helping its citizens obtain the right to education up to college level. The state is present to support the younger generation, prospective future leaders, who have potential but require financial support so that they can have equal access to higher education.

Through the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud), the government targets 818,000 students to receive KIP Kuliah in 2020. KIP Kuliah is categorized into KIP Kuliah and Affirmative KIP Kuliah, which includes support for persons with disabilities, participants of the Higher Education Affirmation (ADik) program for Indigenous Papuans in the Papua and West Papua regions, 3T regions (frontier, outermost, or underdeveloped), as well as regions affected by natural disasters or social conflicts.

“This number consists of 418,000 ongoing Bidikmisi students from 2016-2019 and KIP Kuliah for 400,000 prospective new students,” stated the Secretary General of Kemendikbud, Ainun Na’im at the Kemendikbud Office in Jakarta, Monday (17/2/2020).

Guarantee of Continuity for Current (Ongoing) Bidikmisi and Affirmation

Kemendikbud guarantees the continuity of study for current (ongoing) Bidikmisi and Affirmation recipient students to continue receiving educational assistance until their study period is completed.

“There is no change whatsoever to the educational assistance program currently being received. According to the plan, the even semester Bidikmisi funds will be disbursed in early March 2020,” explained Secretary General Ainun Na’im.

Prospective New Students Requiring KIP Kuliah

For prospective students from underprivileged families who graduated from SMA, SMK, MA/equivalent in 2018-2020, please register to receive KIP Kuliah starting in early March 2020. Registration is carried out online on the page http://kip-kuliah.kemdikbud.go.id/.

The data required for KIP Kuliah registration is the same as the requirements for Bidikmisi, namely the Population Identification Number (NIK), National Student Identification Number (NISN), National School Identification Number (NPSN), and e-mail address. After being verified by the system, applicants will receive a registration number and access code to register at State Universities (PTN).

In the event that prospective students come from underprivileged families but do not yet hold a KIP or their parents/guardians are not registered as Family Welfare Card (KKS) recipients, it is still possible to receive KIP Kuliah as long as they pass the selection and economic condition verification by the relevant higher education institution.

Registration for the SNMPTN Track

Prospective students who do not require KIP Kuliah support and wish to register for PTN entrance selection through the National Selection for State University Admission (SNMPTN) track can register until 27 February 2020. However, specifically for prospective students who require KIP Kuliah support and wish to register for PTN entrance selection through the SNMPTN track, they are welcome to register on the KIP Kuliah website first to obtain a registration number and access code. *Registration can be completed from early March 2020 until 31 March 2020.

“For prospective students who require KIP Kuliah support, please remain calm and monitor updates on Kemendikbud channels. More complete information regarding KIP Kuliah will be announced in early March,” concluded the Secretary General of Kemendikbud.
