SNMPN 2020 Officially Opens Across Indonesia

A total of 42 state polytechnics across Indonesia officially opened the higher education admission track for new students, the National Selection for State Polytechnic Admission (SNMPN), during the launch of SNMPN 2020 held at Politeknik Negeri Jakarta, Depok Jakarta, this morning (06/01/2020).

This selection track has seen an increasing number of participants year after year and is in high demand among students from public and private high schools, vocational high schools, and Islamic high schools (SMA, SMK, and MA). Although initially known as PMDK-PN (since 2014, ed.), this year the Indonesian State Polytechnic Directors Forum (FDPNI) changed the term to SNMPN. “Starting this year, the term PMDK-PN has been changed to SNMPN. However, the mechanism and selection process remain the same as PMDK-PN. Registration is also conducted online,” explained Dr. Zainal Arief, ST, MT, Head of the Nationwide Polytechnic Admissions for New Students, during a press conference held at Politeknik Negeri Jakarta.

The SNMPN track is an invitation-based selection track intended for prospective candidates/students who wish to continue their education at vocational higher education institutions or state polytechnics and state agricultural polytechnics throughout Indonesia. This selection pattern is structured within an integrated system and conducted simultaneously based on students' academic performance during their secondary education. “In addition to academic achievements, non-academic achievements are also considered in determining whether a student is accepted,” he added.

Registration for prospective candidates/students through the SNMPN track is free of charge, as all expenses are funded by the government budget. The SNMPN track also accommodates accepted candidates/students from economically disadvantaged families who possess high academic achievements as participants in the Bidikmisi Scholarship program. “We want to assist the government by providing wide access so that outstanding students can pursue higher education,” added Zainal Arief.

Schools only need to register via the website https://snmpn.politeknik.or.id using the username and password provided by the committee to each school. Subsequently, schools recommend and register their best students. These students will be given a username and password to input their data online. Registration is open starting today until 6 March 2020 and is exclusively open for students graduating this year.

There are hundreds of study programs spread across 42 state polytechnics in Indonesia that can be chosen by students through this selection. “The opportunity to pursue higher education is wide open, and it should be utilized as effectively as possible by the public. Do not rely solely on academic state university selections; vocational state university tracks like SNMPN can also be considered. Moving forward, following this selection, polytechnics across Indonesia will still open admissions through a written test, namely the Joint Selection for State Polytechnic Admission (SBMPN) 2020,” Zainal concluded at the end of the event.
