Water is an essential necessity for human survival. Water is an indispensable daily basic need; without water, life in the world might not exist. Therefore, unmet water needs can have a significant impact on health vulnerability. The problem currently faced by the community of Suka Baru Village is that the water frequently used is turbid and yellowish. Although the water condition is unclean, residents continue to use it because it has become a basic necessity for daily use. Therefore, one solution to tackle turbid water is by using a water filter. Water filtration is a simple method for treating turbid water. Addressing this issue, the Politap PKM Team offered collaboration with Suka Baru Village, Benua Kayong District, Ketapang Regency, which was promptly welcomed by the village head of Suka Baru to create a water purifier to overcome the turbid water in the village.
Therefore, according to team leader Hairian Rahmadi, the Politeknik Negeri Ketapang (Ketapang State Polytechnic) community service team needed to design a simple and affordable water treatment device that can be constructed by the community using commercially available materials, with clean water treatment media consisting of foam, stones, gravel, palm fiber, sand, activated carbon, and zeolite. This device was built for community needs so that its construction and operation are easy. It can be used to filter turbid water such as well water and river water. This filtration device will produce better water quality suitable for cooking, bathing, and washing, thereby improving sanitation, especially access to clean water. Based on the issues in Suka Baru Village above, the POLITAP PKM team created a backwash-system water filtration device for the community of Suka Baru Village, Benua Kayong District, Ketapang Regency, with the hope that the water filter will assist the community, particularly since the water produced by the filter can be used for cooking.
