The 2020 National Selection for State Polytechnic Admission (SNMPN) was officially launched alongside the inauguration of SNMPN 2020 held at Politeknik Negeri Jakarta, Depok, Jakarta, (06/01/2020). A total of 42 State Polytechnics across Indonesia are participating in this National Selection. This selection was formerly called PMDK, organized nationally based on the tracking of interests and abilities without a written test. This year, the Indonesian State Polytechnic Directors Forum (FDPNI) changed the term to SNMPN. "Starting this year, the term PMDK-PN has been changed to SNMPN. However, the mechanism and selection process remain the same as PMDK-PN. Registration is also conducted online," explained Dr. Zainal Arief, ST, MT, Head of the Indonesian Polytechnic New Student Admissions Committee at a press conference held at Politeknik Negeri Jakarta.

This admission track has seen growing applicant numbers from year to year and is favored by students from state and private high schools (SMA), vocational high schools (SMK), and Islamic high schools (MA). The SNMPN track is an invitation-based selection intended for prospective students who will continue their education at vocational colleges, state polytechnics, and state agricultural polytechnics across Indonesia. This selection system is integrated and held simultaneously based on students' academic performance during senior high school. "In addition to academic achievements, non-academic achievements are also taken into consideration in determining a student's acceptance," he added.

Hundreds of study programs across 42 state polytechnics in Indonesia are available for students to choose from through this selection. Registration for candidates through this SNMPN track is free of charge, as all expenses are covered by the government budget. The SNMPN track also accommodates accepted applicants from low-income families who have high academic achievement as recipients of the Bidikmisi Scholarship program. "We want to assist the government by providing wide access so high-achieving students can pursue higher education," added Zainal Arief.

Meanwhile, Director of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang (Ketapang State Polytechnic) (Ketapang State Polytechnic, POLITAP) Endang Kusmana stated, "POLITAP, as one of the 42 State Polytechnics across Indonesia, also provides the widest possible opportunity for students wishing to pursue higher vocational education, particularly in Ketapang Regency. The study programs available at POLITAP are the D3 Agricultural Product Processing Technology Study Program, D3 Agroindustry Study Program, D3 Informatics Engineering Study Program, D3 Electrical Engineering Study Program, D3 Mechanical Engineering Study Program, and D3 Mining Engineering Study Program. In addition, the Applied Bachelor's programs include the Plantation Crop Cultivation Study Program and Civil Engineering Study Program." POLITAP, as the only state vocational higher education institution in Ketapang Regency, is ready to contribute to Ketapang Regency by producing professional vocational workers to support industrial and economic growth in Ketapang, in addition to improving the Human Development Index (HDI) and higher education Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in Ketapang Regency," he said.

When asked about the registration procedure, Endang Kusmana explained, "Schools simply need to register via the website https://snmpn.politeknik.or.id using the username and password provided by the POLITAP New Student Admissions committee to each school. Next, the school recommends and registers its best students. These students will be given a username and password to enter their data online. Registration is open starting today until 6 March 2020 and is only open to students graduating this year."
