On Wednesday, 28 October 2020, at Balai Petitih, West Kalimantan Governor's Office, the Director of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang (Ketapang State Polytechnic) signed a joint commitment to admit youths from West Kalimantan who have achieved non-academic distinctions. This joint commitment was entered into by the Governor of West Kalimantan and several higher education institutions in West Kalimantan.

Director of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang, Endang Kusmana, stated that the signing of this joint commitment will strengthen the Politap Building Vocational Education from Villages program through the admission of new students from high-achieving youths in West Kalimantan to study at Politeknik Negeri Ketapang. Endang added that his institution is rolling out the red carpet for prospective students who excel at international, national, and local levels, even providing scholarships for high-achieving applicants to study at Politeknik Negeri Ketapang.

In his remarks, Governor Sutarmidji hoped that this initiative, including the planned scholarship provision, would accelerate the improvement of the Human Development Index (HDI) in West Kalimantan Province, stating that the province's HDI growth can be expedited. West Kalimantan's current HDI score stands at 67–68, whereas the national average is already above 70. This challenge must be addressed together with all higher education institutions.

Also present at the signing of this joint commitment were the Deputy Chairman of the DPRD, Forkopimda, as well as Rectors, Directors, and representatives of regency/city higher education institutions across West Kalimantan.
