Students of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang (Ketapang State Polytechnic) have once again achieved sporting success. Seven Politap students successfully qualified in the selection for the 16th National Student Sports Week (POMNAS XVI) in Jakarta in 2019. They include Siti Fatimah (D4 Civil Engineering student) in the women's 100-meter sprint athletics event, Syarif M Idris (D3 TPHP student) in futsal, Eswin Lambogia (D3 Machine Maintenance and Repair student) in karate, as well as Elma Muliana (D4 Civil Engineering), Novia Sari (D4 Civil Engineering), and Egi Rusmanto (D3 Informatics Engineering) in beach volleyball.

The provincial-level selection was held by the West Kalimantan Student Sports Development Board (BAPOMI) in Pontianak, 17-23 June 2019. The selection was attended by almost all higher education institutions in West Kalimantan, both state and private universities.

Epriyandi, Politap Vice Director for Student Affairs, stated that Politap sent a 14-member contingent to compete in Beach Volleyball, Futsal, Karate, and Athletics. “The participation of Politap students in these sports is an effort to improve non-academic achievements as part of enhancing the quality of student learning,” said the Head of the Politap POMDA Contingent.

Separately, Politap Director Endang Kusmana stated that Politap's active participation in various local, national, and international events will continue to be encouraged as part of a sustainable program covering talents and interests, reasoning and creativity, student welfare, entrepreneurship, student organizations, and workforce alignment.

Endang added that the target in the field of talents and interests is for Politap to qualify for POMNAS XVI in Jakarta in 2019 and excel at the All-Indonesian Polytechnic Sports and Arts Week in Banjarmasin in 2020. The target in reasoning and creativity is directed at ensuring each study program qualifies for various events aligned with their study program competencies, such as national robotics competitions, concrete strength competitions, winning the Student Creativity Program, and similar contests.

The target in student welfare is aimed at increasing the number of students receiving scholarships and other facilities. The entrepreneurship target aims to continuously increase the number of student entrepreneurs through the Indonesian Student Business Competition (KBMI) and the Politap Entrepreneurship program.

The student organization target is directed toward enabling student organizations within Politap to actively support the vision, mission, goals, and targets. For instance, the Politap Student Council President was recently elected as a national functionary coordinator for communications among Indonesian Polytechnic students for the 2019/2020 period in Palembang. Furthermore, the workforce alignment target focuses on synergy and collaboration between the curriculum system and the industrial world.(mde/ser)
