In recent years, various sectors of our lives have been hit by the era of disruption, marked by the advancing role of technology and shifts in business models that bring the future into the present. These sectors include transportation, telecommunications, hospitality, construction, banking, and higher education. To address these challenges, Politeknik Negeri Ketapang (Ketapang State Polytechnic) (Ketapang State Polytechnic, Politap) held a Focus Group Discussion on 15 April 2019 at the Asana Nevada Hotel Ketapang, attended by structural and non-structural officials within Politap, as well as stakeholders from the local government and industry in Ketapang.

Endang Kusmana, Director of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang, stated in his opening remarks that the era of disruption brings challenges, uncertainty, and new opportunities; capitalizing on these opportunities will enhance prosperity and competitiveness. Endang further added that to anticipate this, Politap is taking organizational transformation measures through self-disruption towards more open, flexible, and high-quality management of the tri dharma (three pillars of higher education), as well as improving communication with stakeholders to foster an ecosystem of research, technology, and higher education that can meet market demands. One crucial and strategic effort is conducting a curriculum revision.

The Head of the Focus Group Discussion Committee, Yusuf, stated that this event was part of a series of events for Politap's 11th Anniversary and had begun with drafting the curriculum revision across all study programs within Politap. Each Study Program Coordinator delivered a presentation on curriculum development plans, which then received feedback and input from stakeholders to subsequently be established as Politap's curriculum, implemented for new students in the 2019/2020 Academic Year.

Vice Director for Academic Affairs Adha Panca Wardanu, who was in charge of this program, stated that the potential of Ketapang Regency—with 76 plantation industries, 48 mining industries, and 18 forestry industries—presents tremendous opportunities. Therefore, with a curriculum aligned with market needs, Politap has begun implementing learning using the teaching industry method, the Dual System curriculum, and the MEME System. Danu explained that Politap, as a vocational education institution, strives to produce graduates tailored to industry needs through the application of the teaching industry; with the Dual System, D-III students will spend 3 semesters in the classroom, 2 semesters in industry, and 1 semester on research, while D-IV students will spend 4 semesters in the classroom, 3 semesters in industry, and 1 semester on research), alongside preparations to implement vocational education delivery through an open system or MEME (multi-entry multi-exit) system. Danu explained that with this MEME system, higher education delivery becomes more open, offering flexibility in options and completion time, conducted as joint degrees or double degrees based on a joint curriculum.
