Machine Maintenance and Repair Department Ready to 'Marry' Industry

The Machine Maintenance and Repair Department of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang (Ketapang State Polytechnic) held a webinar on the opportunities and challenges for mechanical engineering graduates in the industrial world on Monday, 20 July 2020. This webinar was the 4th series organized by Politeknik Negeri Ketapang, featuring two resource persons: M. Abdurani Fitra, S.Sos from PT.BSM Ketapang and Rahmat Nurroyyan from PLTU Ketapang.

Endang Kusmana, Director of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang, stated in his opening remarks that this webinar is an effort to improve communication between industry and higher education so that the needs of both can be met. Politap is ready to produce qualified graduates matching the competencies demanded by industry.

Resource person M. Abdurani Fitra from PT.BSM shared that employment opportunities are wide open because all of the company's production processes utilize machinery, giving mechanical engineering alumni bright prospects to work at his company. Meanwhile, Rahmat Nurroyyan touched upon the importance of competency certificates for college graduates to enhance candidates' bargaining power when seeking employment at his company.

Meanwhile, speaking separately, Head of Department of Machine Maintenance and Repair Hairian Rahmadi stated that his department has consistently maintained intensive communication with industry partners regarding curriculum development, internships, and staff recruitment. It is hoped that going forward, these efforts will continue to be enhanced.
