Mapala Berayo Mengelitar Rimbak Borneo (BMRB) Politeknik Ketapang carried out an environmental greening initiative. The activity was held in Belaban Tujuh Village, Tumbang Titi District, from Thursday (4/1/2018) to Sunday (6/1/2018).
The event carried the theme “Socialization, Greening, Belaban Hill Expedition”. Among the activities was tree planting together with local residents.
Chief Executive of the Event, Yogi Firnandi, said residents were very enthusiastic about participating in the activity.
“We are delighted that the local community was very enthusiastic about joining this event. This indicates that many people still care about environmental conservation,” Yogi told reporters in Ketapang on Monday (8/1).
He explained that the types of trees planted included rain trees (trembesi), local large trees, and various fruit trees.
The seedlings were obtained from the Gunung Palung Foundation and the Ketapang Forest Management Unit (KPH).
Moving forward, his team will also continue monitoring the planted trees.
Monitoring will be conducted once every three months to ensure that the planted trees survive and grow large.
“Furthermore, so far many community members may not have understood the importance of protecting the environment. Therefore, we also raised their awareness regarding the importance of vegetation for life and the environment,” he said.
Head of Belaban Tujuh Village, Awaldi, expressed his gratitude to the event organizers. He was also very pleased and proud to be visited by the students, noting that this was the first time university students had visited his village.
“We are very pleased and proud to have been visited by these students. In roughly 20 years since our village was established, this is the first time students have visited,” he said in a press release issued by Yogi Firnandi to media personnel in Ketapang on Monday (8/1).
Moreover, the students carried out a very positive initiative, namely reforestation in his village. The activity was certainly very beneficial, especially for his administration and the village community.
“In addition to tree planting, our community was also provided with awareness regarding the importance of preserving nature, ensuring that the forest remains green and functions as the lungs of the earth,” he stated.
He revealed that the activity by Mapala BMRB Politeknik Ketapang was not only attended by community members, but also actively joined and supported by the local youth belonging to the Karang Taruna of Belaban Tujuh Village.
Therefore, he expressed hope that moving forward, Belaban Village would become an assisted village of Mapala BMRB Politeknik Ketapang, so that Mapala BMRB could consistently carry out positive activities in his village on a regular and sustainable basis.
“Let this relationship between Mapala BMRB Politeknik Negeri Ketapang (Ketapang State Polytechnic) and Belaban Tujuh Village not just end here. Instead, let it continue in broader aspects, such as technological development and modern progress,” he said.
