To further enhance the quality of education, Politeknik Negeri Ketapang (Ketapang State Polytechnic) provided Character Building Leadership Training to the entire academic community of Politap, 28 – 30 July. The event themed: Through sensitivity training methodology, we enhance work competence for employees of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang, was officially opened by the Director of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang, Dr Nurmala MM. The event featured resource persons Prof Dr Mochamad Imamudin MM MSc, M Ridwan Ibrahim SPsi MM, and Rani Nurani SSos Msi.
In her speech, the Director of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang, Dr Nurmala MM, said that the Character Building Leadership Training is an annual activity program. She added that the purpose of this activity is to ensure that the academic community possesses good character and professionalism in carrying out their duties and responsibilities across each work unit. “In accordance with the regulations instructed by the Ministry of Higher Education,” she said.
She added that as servants to students, the polytechnic must be able to deliver maximum service, including in the accountable use of funds to budget supervisory agencies. Thus, to fulfill this, according to her, leaders, lecturers, and staff with competence, dedication, and good character are certainly needed. “I hope this training will be followed seriously and can be tangibly applied in the operational management of Ketapang Polytechnic,” she hoped.
A similar sentiment was conveyed by Prof Dr Mochamad Imamudin MM MSc. He hoped that this training could build good character within themselves and identify the potentials already possessed. Thus, he hoped, from here it can be identified what needs to be improved and what potentials must be maintained. “So it is not about destroying their character,” he added.
Imamudin gave an example that once they have a sense of responsibility, commitment, and good empathy, they only need to cultivate their leadership attitude. Because all this time, to be a leader, he emphasized that the benchmark has been the ability to manage. However, when the message is not conveyed, or the people being managed do not comply, it is certain that the institution is not solid in carrying out planned programs. “To create a solid institution or agency, leaders and subordinates must work in synergy,” he advised.
He also added that no matter how great a leader is at managing subordinates, if the subordinates lack good character, are irresponsible, inconsistent, and lack dedication, the institution or agency will face difficulties. Therefore, in this case, according to him, both leaders and subordinates must have good character.
The activity featuring nationally competent resource persons concluded with a commitment pledge signed on a white cloth banner reading sensitivity training.
