In response to changes toward the Industry 4.0 era, on 30 July 2018, the Electrical Technology Study Program of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang (Ketapang State Polytechnic) collaborated with the PT. PLN (Persero) Sukaharja power generation unit (PLTD Sukaharja) under the theme “Teaching Industry”.
This activity must involve industry as a key stakeholder of the Polytechnic in the development of higher vocational education. This activity actually responds to the government's intention, which has prepared a roadmap titled Making Indonesia 4.0 as Indonesia's strategy to enter the current digital era.
Making Indonesia 4.0 sets a clear direction for the future of national industry. The country is committed to focusing on the development of five pilot manufacturing sectors and carrying out 10 national initiatives to strengthen the structure of Indonesia's industry, including initiatives to prepare a reliable workforce with specialized skills for mastering the latest technologies.
During this event, the Electrical Technology Study Program Coordinator, Akhdiyatul, M.T, emphasized the importance of competencies that every polytechnic student must possess. One of the ways is through this Teaching Industry activity, bridging the understanding of what lecturers convey in class by directly observing electrical machines at work—from energy production, distribution, to transmission until the electrical energy ultimately reaches consumers.
The visiting lecturers and students were welcomed directly by the Manager of the Sukaharja Power Center, Mr. M. Akbar. According to M. Akbar, PLTD was pleased with the students' presence as this became a moment as well as an outreach concerning what the Sukaharja Power Center does in serving the community by providing electrical energy services. Moving forward, Politeknik Negeri Ketapang hopes for sustainable collaboration so that PLTD can continue to serve as a learning medium for students.
