Held at The Sultan Hotel Jakarta on 27 February 2020, Politeknik Negeri Ketapang (Ketapang State Polytechnic) signed a Cooperation Agreement on the development of Tourism Villages with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. A total of 101 higher education institutions across Indonesia attended the signing ceremony. The agreement was signed by the Director of Politap and the Director of Tourism Human Resources Development under the Deputy for Resources and Institutions of Kemenparekraf, Wisnu Bawa Tarunajaya.

The Director of Politap explained that the development of tourism villages represents a collaborative effort between Politeknik Negeri Ketapang and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, enabling research, community service, and student activities to focus on helping transform a village in Ketapang into a Tourism Village, ultimately generating economic and educational added value for all parties.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Cooperation Working Group, Martanto, stated that the village to be developed in this initial phase is Sungai Awan Kiri Village, Muara Pawan District, Ketapang Regency. The program aims to provide mentoring for tourism village actors to mitigate existing obstacles, thereby driving positive impacts on the village's development. With mentoring from higher education institutions, the local community will be more confident in promoting the tourism village. Furthermore, this assistance is expected to enhance local community capacity in managing tourism villages, foster rural community initiative, awareness, and participation in tourism village development, and optimize natural resources.
