Politeknik Negeri Ketapang (Ketapang State Polytechnic) is once again opening admission for new students for the 2020/2021 academic year through the 2020 Joint Entrance Selection for State Polytechnics (SBMPN). This new student admission selection is the second track following phase 1 via the invitation track or National Selection for State Polytechnic Admission (SNMPN), which ended on 8 May 2020. This time, Politap is reopening the opportunity to admit the best talents to become professional experts through vocational education via the Joint Entrance Selection for State Polytechnics (SBMPN) track.

Adha Panca Wardanu, Vice Director for Academic Affairs, stated on Friday, 8 May 2020, that this year's SBMPN (Joint Entrance Selection for State Polytechnics) is being conducted using a portfolio approach. This differs from previous years, which used written tests, and is a joint decision of the Indonesian State Polytechnic Directors Forum (FDPNI) taking into account the prevention of the spread of Covid-19, so that this year's SBMPN is carried out using a portfolio scheme through the screening of report card grades and other requirements in accordance with guidelines from FDPNI.

This year's SBMPN aims to select prospective students who possess the academic ability to undergo and complete education at the Polytechnic within the specified time limit. The SBMPN track, formerly known as the UMPN (State Polytechnic Entrance Examination) track, changed its designation in 2020 based on the results of discussions and joint decisions at the Indonesian State Polytechnic Directors Forum held in Surabaya in December 2019. The admission schedule for this SBMPN track will open on 19 May 2020 and close on 25 June 2020. The registration process is carried out online through the official website at http://sbmpn.politeknik.or.id

Furthermore, Vice Director for Academic Affairs Adha Panca Wardanu explained that “The assessment process for 2020 SBMPN participants will be ranked by the highest scores based on portfolio assessment criteria, including diploma scores, report card grades, and school accreditation, and then allocated to their chosen study program with the provision that higher-ranking participants receive priority to be allocated first. If there are still seats available in the first-choice study program, they will be accepted into the first-choice study program. If seats in the first study program are full and seats remain in the second-choice study program, they will be accepted into the second-choice study program. If seats in the second-choice study program are full and seats remain in the third-choice study program, they will be accepted into the third-choice study program, and so on. If seats in the first, second, and third choice study programs are already filled by participants with higher scores, then they will not be accepted even if their score is still relatively high,” he said. On the same occasion, he also stated, “For new students admission through the 2020 SBMPN track, a registration fee of IDR 150,000 applies, and prospective students can choose 3 study programs either within one polytechnic or across polytechnics,” he added.

The announcement of results for the 2020 SBMPN track will be made on 4 July 2020 via the website and at each respective polytechnic.
