Taxes are a crucial source of state revenue for national development, including enhancing the competitive quality of Indonesian human resources and developing science and technology (IPTEK). Seeing the link between taxes and education and to foster a tax-conscious younger generation, Politeknik Negeri Ketapang (Ketapang State Polytechnic) and the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) of West Kalimantan signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of tax awareness inclusion in the curriculum of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang, held on 22 November 2019 at the West Kalimantan DJP Regional Office in Pontianak.
The Memorandum of Understanding was followed up with the first technical meeting between the management of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang and the Ketapang Pratama Tax Office at the Politeknik Negeri Ketapang campus on Monday, 9 December 2019.
Tax awareness inclusion is a collaborative effort between Politap and the West Kalimantan DJP Regional Office to instill tax awareness in students and educators (lecturers) through the integration of tax awareness materials into education. Later, tax awareness inclusion in education at Politap will be delivered by General Compulsory Course lecturers to their students. The tax learning process is conducted by embedding tax materials into the General Courses of Pancasila, Civics, Indonesian Language, and Religious Education.
After students receive the tax awareness materials, it is hoped that they will understand the context of taxation as an essential element in national development, and that as good citizens, it is our duty to support state development. Having tax knowledge means participating in nation-building and embodying character aligned with Pancasila values as national identity. Through taxation, national integration is maintained with the hope of reducing social inequality, leveling prosperity, and ensuring the equitable availability of public facilities.
We hope that through the implementation of Tax Awareness Inclusion at Politeknik Negeri Ketapang, a quality and tax-conscious Indonesian golden generation can be realized in the future. In this way, high tax compliance can also be achieved. It is hoped that by 2045, a tax-conscious golden generation will be formed, where every individual understands that fulfilling tax obligations (paying, depositing, and reporting taxes) is part of their duty as Indonesian citizens (WNI), turning tax compliance from an obligation into a trend.
