Ketapang, 21 April 2025 – Politeknik Negeri Ketapang (Ketapang State Polytechnic) received a visit from the Team of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kanwil Kemenkumham) of West Kalimantan on Monday, 21 April 2025. This visit was part of coordination efforts regarding the submission of simple patent applications from 2024 as well as exploring strategic cooperation in the field of intellectual property (IP).

The arrival of the West Kalimantan Kemenkumham Regional Office Team was warmly welcomed by the Director of Politap, Mr. Irianto, S.P., S.ST., M.MA., along with the leadership and the Politap Intellectual Property Center (Sentra KI) Team. During the meeting, both parties comprehensively discussed the filing process for 11 simple patent applications initiated by lecturers as inventors within the campus environment.

The team from the Regional Office provided technical guidance regarding the status of each application to ensure all documents can be processed optimally and fulfill substantive requirements in accordance with applicable regulations. The Regional Office Team also expressed appreciation for the spirit of innovation demonstrated and the increasing awareness among Politap's academic community regarding the importance of legal protection for intellectual property.

Beyond focusing on patent aspects, this meeting was also utilized to explore broader cooperation opportunities. One important topic raised was the potential active role of Politap in supporting the Research and Development Agency (Litbang) of Ketapang Regency, particularly in the registration process of Geographical Indications (GI) for flagship local products. This collaboration is considered strategic to strengthen synergy between vocational higher education institutions and local government in efforts to preserve and empower legally protected local assets.

“We welcome this invitation to cooperate. It aligns with Politap's mission to not only produce excellent, job-ready vocational graduates, but also play a tangible role in the development and empowerment of regional potential,” stated the Director of Politap, Irianto.

As a concrete follow-up to the meeting, both parties agreed to promptly formalize cooperation through the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS). The scope of cooperation encompasses increasing the quantity and quality of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) registrations, strengthening institutional capacity and human resources, as well as conducting public education on the importance of IPR protection within society.

The event concluded with a warm interactive discussion session and a group photo as a symbol of mutual commitment to building a sustainable ecosystem of research, innovation, and intellectual property protection in West Kalimantan. (P3KM)
