The training was conducted as part of Politap's commitment to building safe, orderly laboratories that meet national standards, while also preparing participants to face competency certification assessments by the National Professional Certification Board (BNSP).
The Director of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang officially opened the event while emphasizing the importance of strengthening an occupational safety culture in organizing vocational education.
“A laboratory is not merely a place for practicum, but a learning environment that must guarantee the safety of all its users. Therefore, implementing good laboratory governance, regulatory compliance, and an OHS culture are inseparable parts of efforts to improve the quality of vocational education. I hope this activity will enhance the competence of participants while preparing them to face the BNSP competency certification assessment,” stated the Director.
The Director also appreciated the presence of the resource person and all participants who were committed to attending the training as part of improving institutional quality. According to him, competency certification is a strategic step in producing professional and competitive human resources in the field of laboratory management.

The training featured Suratman, S.T., M.T., a BNSP Assessor and Associate Educational Laboratory Technologist, as the keynote speaker. In his presentation, Suratman emphasized that laboratory OHS implementation does not merely focus on administrative compliance, but also on fostering a work culture that prioritizes safety, regulatory compliance, and risk control within the laboratory environment.
During the two-day program, participants received instruction on various aspects of laboratory management, including laboratory governance and OHS implementation, preparation of portfolio evidence for Laboratory OHS Officers, compliance with applicable laws and other regulations, application of occupational safety in laboratories and the workplace environment, implementation and monitoring of the Occupational Safety and Health Management System (SMK3), and preparation for the BNSP competency certification assessment under the Laboratory OHS Officer Scheme.
Through material delivery combined with discussions and technical assistance, participants gained a more comprehensive understanding of OHS implementation as well as document preparation, which is an essential part of the certification assessment process.
This activity serves as an initial stage prior to the BNSP competency certification assessment under the Laboratory OHS Officer Scheme scheduled for 30–31 July 2026. It is hoped that through this training, the competence of laboratory managers within Politeknik Negeri Ketapang will be enhanced to support the creation of educational laboratories that are safe, professional, and compliant with national standards.
