Politeknik Negeri Ketapang (Ketapang State Polytechnic), as part of the Ketapang Lawan Corona volunteers, distributed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other medical supplies to several Puskesmas in Ketapang Regency to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“The distributed aid consisted of 80 hazmat suits, 125 face shields, 1 box of N95 masks, 12 boxes of medical gloves, and 10 330-ml bottles of hand sanitizer that meet medical standards. Politeknik Negeri Ketapang itself donated 250 bottles of hand sanitizer, 40 hazmat suits, and 40 face shields,” said the Person in Charge of Ketapang Melawan Corona, Roni Bia Santo, who also serves as the Head of the Politap BEM, in a written statement in Ketapang, Saturday (25 April 2020).
He explained that the funds for this initiative came from voluntary donations contributed to the Ketapang Lawan Corona Action, which had been carried out for approximately three weeks by several organizations in Ketapang and managed to procure supplies for medical teams.
“We distributed medical equipment aid to Puskesmas that treat patients under surveillance (PDP) or confirmed corona-positive patients so that medical personnel do not face difficulties when examining them. For the distribution of PPE and the required medical equipment, we went directly into the field and spoke with medical personnel and Puskesmas heads,” he said.
He expressed hope that this activity would serve as an initial step or catalyst for other organizations to work hand in hand to assist the government and medical workers in battling this dangerous virus. “This Ketapang Lawan Corona activity is a form of solidarity regarding the shortage of PPE for medical teams in Ketapang,” he stated.
Vice Director for Student Affairs of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang, Epriyandi, separately stated that the institution joined the Ketapang Melawan Corona volunteers to ensure more integrated coordination involving various elements, demonstrating togetherness as the recipient Puskesmas are located far apart. The Ketapang Melawan Corona volunteers are also working for the long term in accordance with the period needed to prevent the spread of COVID-19. “For this initial stage, Politap provided hand sanitizer, hazmat suits, and face shields. In the next stage, we will build several automated handwashing stations to be installed at various points across the city of Ketapang. Naturally, following the completion of budget refocusing, Politap's activities will also be directed toward efforts supporting the prevention of the spread of COVID-19,” he explained.
